Before the case
Review the relevant section orientation and a small number of likely device entries. Focus on device families before individual brands.
At the table
Identify the device family first, then the specific device. Ask what role it is playing now: access, navigation, support, exchange, delivery, treatment, drainage, retrieval, closure, or securement.
During the case
Follow the sequence of device functions. Notice when access is preserved, when the platform changes, and when a device is exchanged for a more supportive or specialized system.
After the case
Revisit unfamiliar devices while the sequence is still fresh. Compare each with its nearest look-alike and connect it to the stage where it appeared.
