What am I looking at?
Compound selective catheter with a short distal hook and a prominent posterior-facing secondary bulge that braces against the opposite aortic wall.
What does it do, and where will I see it?
Used to select small aortic branch ostia, particularly bronchial, celiac, superior mesenteric, and inferior mesenteric vessels, during diagnostic angiography and embolization.
What most clearly distinguishes it from similar devices?
The posterior secondary curve provides counterforce that helps keep the tip seated in a small ostium; unlike a Simmons catheter, it does not depend on a broad reverse-curve loop.
