What am I looking at?
Self-expanding metal stent with a continuous covering on a biliary delivery catheter.
What does it do, and where will I see it?
Fabric- or polymer-covered self-expanding metal stent that relieves obstruction or seals a leak while its lining resists tumor and tissue ingrowth to prolong patency. Typical procedural contexts include malignant biliary obstruction, biliary leak or fistula, and selected refractory strictures.
What most clearly distinguishes it from similar devices?
The continuous covering blocks tissue ingrowth and creates a lined conduit, distinguishing this stent from an uncovered biliary stent with open metal mesh.
