What am I looking at?
Cylindrical balloon on a shaft with radiopaque marker bands at its shoulders.
What does it do, and where will I see it?
Workhorse angioplasty balloon inflated to a rated diameter to dilate a stenosis in a vessel, dialysis access, bile duct, or ureter. Typical procedural contexts include peripheral and dialysis-access angioplasty, and dilation of biliary or ureteral strictures.
What most clearly distinguishes it from similar devices?
The PTA balloon is the workhorse dilation platform: balloon diameter and working length define the treatment segment, while a separate inflation device controls pressure.
