Three-panel learning framework

Recognition, context, and distinction

01

What am I looking at?

Visual recognition

Thin catheter with a compliant distal balloon and a proximal inflation port, designed to pass through a vessel or access circuit.

02

What does it do, and where will I see it?

Use & procedural context

Used during AV dialysis-access declot and selected peripheral embolectomy to sweep residual thrombus or an arterial plug after mechanical thrombectomy.

03

What most clearly distinguishes it from similar devices?

Key distinctions

The balloon is inflated distal to thrombus and withdrawn as a sweep device; unlike an angioplasty balloon, it is not intended for sustained high-pressure dilation of a stenosis.
